LabyrinthsLabyrinths are ancient patterns found all over the world and across many cultures — one over 4,000 years old. Many people think a labyrinth is the same as a maze, but they are actually very different. While a maze has many paths and entrances and can be confusing and disorienting, a labyrinth has a single entrance with a single path. In a labyrinth, the path brings you to the center, then back out along the same path to the entrance. A labyrinth is a pattern with a purpose, and over the centuries has been used as a ceremonial pathway, for pilgrimage, as traps for unwelcome spirits, and for games and dancing. Today, labyrinths offer a chance to take time out from our busy lives and to leave behind stress and schedules. Walking a labyrinth allows us to connect to a deeper part of ourselves. People who walk labyrinths reports experiencing insight and creative thoughts, quieting of the mind, relaxation, happiness, tears, connectedness, balance, and well-being. Labyrinth Design and InstallationI can create labyrinths for personal garden spaces, facilities of all kinds, or help you lead your group in the creative process of designing and creating your own labyrinth. In designing a labyrinth, I take into consideration the site itself, available space, and energy flow of the land, among other factors. As part of the design and installation process, I offer advice on size, placement, and orientation, and also can design and oversee installation of gardens that complete the sacred place of the labyrinth. I can also suggest artists whose sculptures would add a special focal point to your labyrinth garden. My services can be a one-time visit for site analysis or can include consultation, design, and installation, working with your landscape architect or contractor. |
